Van Alen Phase 2, 555 Mangum Street, Durham, NC

Project data

Location: Durham, United States

With the 12-story Van Alen tower and low-rise podium residences completed, Lithko Contracting is now constructing a 12-story office tower as the final element of this downtown development. Located directly across the street from the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, the towers provide a bird’s-eye view of baseball games as well as easy accessibility to the rest of the city’s burgeoning business district.

Requirements

The contractor selected PERI SKYTABLE slab tables for both towers to take advantage of the system’s simple stripping and repositioning capabilities. Crews used 28 tables to form the 25,000-sq.-ft. floors of the office tower now under construction.

Customer

Lithko Contracting LLC, Raleigh, NC

Customer's benefit

Approximately 15 ft. wide and 40 ft. long, a table typically can be flown into its new position in less than half an hour. The cycle per floor is two to three weeks.

Justin Stancill
Project Superintendent

“PERI SKYTABLES have decreased our cycling time tremendously. We can fly one table out in about 15 minutes, and when we set it down on the next level, essentially 80% of the footprint is 100% ready.”

PERI solution

  • PERI SKYTABLE’s integrated truss structure makes stripping the tables a simple operation once the slab has set. Dropping just a few posts lowers each table. The crane then slides it out and quickly repositions on the next higher level.
