The new 5,000-car parking garage at the Orlando International Airport includes 1 million square feet of space on six levels. Built to support the largest rental car market in the world, the facility consolidates the operations of 10 on-site car rental companies into one convenient location.
Contractor Hensel Phelps chose PERI’s GARAGEDECK System which was designed specifically for construction of beam and slab post-tensioned parking garages. For this project, deep beams to support the 5-3/4-inch- to 6-inch-thick slabs were preassembled at PERI’s nearby facility and shipped to the jobsite, where they were transported by forklift to the floor.
Due to the size and complexity of the project, CAD drawings were required for all floors. Approximately 120,000 ft2 of GARAGEDECK formwork was on-site during construction of the garage. In addition, crews used UNIPORTAL tables along the slab edges and loose GT 24 Girders. MULTIPROP Aluminum Slab Props and shoring towers provided support
throughout the project, including in several high bay areas. In addition to ease of cycling the beam tables on this project, the reusable components in the GARAGEDECK system easily adapted to non-standard applications. Extensive off-site fabrication reduced the laydown area required, which is always especially appreciated in airport work.

The GARAGEDECK System was the right choice of formwork system for our project due to the minimal amount of parts and pieces. We were able to see similar projects before construction to gain knowledge of the system before we started. The preassembled beam forms reduced our labor requirements and saved space on the jobsite. PERI provided us with great service throughout the course of construction.
