University of Utah - Lassonde Studios
Salt Lake City,
United States
In addition to 400 student residences, the new 5-story, 148,000 ft² Lassonde Studios on the University of Utah campus features a 20,000 ft² “garage” where students can build prototypes, attend events, even launch companies. To form the building’s wideopen signature space, Pikus used 20,000 ft² of GRIDFLEX flexible slab formwork shored with 16’ PEP 20-500 high loading capacity slab props. TRIO Panel Formwork made quick work of the interior walls.

Impressions from the project process
GRIDFLEX was used as the shoring system on this project
The red width compensation and the yellow longitudinal compensation panels make the system very flexible allowing it to adapt to every floorplan
The panels are lightweight and can easily be transported by hand
After the GRIDFLEX panels are all set up, the area can be laid out with a free choice of plywood that is simply nailed down directly into the aluminum grid
