SH114 Signature Bridge, Irving, TX

Project data

Location: Irving, United States

As part of the Diamond Interchange project in Irving, Texas, the north and south sides of SH 114, a major highway, are connected by a new signature bridge. The project consists of five bridges that will be combined to appear as one with on and off ramps in-between the bridges to obtain access from SH 114.

PERI was approached by the contractor, Webber LLC, to support the forming of the precast box girder bridge with a curved shape in section and a temporary support system for lifting the new traffic and pedestrian bridge. For this extremely technical project, PERI’s engineering team and Webber’s management team, and subcontractors collaborated to develop a rentable solution, VARIOKIT VST, ideal for the short duration of the bridge truss lifting operation. The flexibility, systematic assembly, and ability to transfer large loads make VARIOKIT VST towers and trusses the optimal system for this project.

Due to limited space for assembly on the jobsite, PERI operations and logistics teams preassembled the tower frames and trusses to arrive on-site in a specific sequence, enabling the construction team to assemble the towers and trusses over 2 weeks.

Requirements

  • Formwork for construction of precast box girder bridge with a curved shape section
  • Cost-effective solution for short duration of bridge trust lifting

Customer

Webber LLC

Customer's benefit

  • Continuous support provided for the construction management during the whole execution phase
  • Due to the high flexibility of the VARIOKIT system, as well as the high load-bearing capacity of the system components, the bridge truss could be lifted cost-effectively

PERI solution

  • Continuous coordination of all formwork processes through a PERI project manager
  • Delivery of the elements in pre-assembled units helped the customer shorten the schedule
