Unique Solution – Climbing Inside a Steel Structure with PERI ACS

The 7 World Trade Center Tower is the first building to be built at “Ground Zero“ in New York City. In order to meet the requirements of having the highest possible level of fire resistance and safety against a terrorist attack, the first 80 ft (25 m) of the 7 WTC is designed with massive reinforced concrete. This structure has a 95 x 69 ft (29 x 21 m) reinforced concrete core which forms the “load-bearing backbone” of the entire building.

A special consideration on this project is that the steel construction precedes the concrete core. Thus, during the design of the wall formwork operations this gave rise to some special considerations: i.e. limited space of only 20‘’(50 cm) when stripping the PERI VARIO external wall formwork. The formwork has to be raised as the reinforcement placed from an outside access area. This is carried out by using electric chain hoists which are attached to specially-designed gallows. The PERI specialists positioned these on the elevated working platforms on level +1.
