Two Stories a Week
PERI ACS Self Climbing System on the Park Tower Hotel and Condominium Project, Chicago, IL

The Park Tower with its unique location on North Michigan Avenue next to the historic Watertower is set to become another symbol of Chicago. It is 950 ft (290 m) high with 73 stories. There will be 205 hotel rooms and 122 luxury condominiums.

The General Contractor, James McHugh Construction, had a very clear idea of the construction process on this project. They stated a clear demand for 2 stories to be constructed per week. This required that slab and wall had to be poured monolithically together in one step. The PERI engineers were able to fulfill these requirements by offering a tailored solution for this particular job.

Another demand was that the load of the placing boom of the concrete pump had to be carried on the ACS platform. The PERI ACS system was able to take the heavy load of 7,700 lbs (3,500 kg) and climb with it.

For the slabs, McHugh selected PERI SKYDECK. The aluminum parts of this system are very light. The heaviest element weighs only 33 lbs (15 kg). That allows the work to be carried out quickly without fatigue. With PERI SKYDECK it is possible to form the core area rapidly by hand without using the crane, at all - another big plus on a cramped downtown site like this.

Work on the Park Tower is progressing on time. The project is scheduled to be completed in December 1999, just in time for the millenium.
