Safety Without Compromising Productivity:
Folding RCS Panels Allow Slab Tables To Be Flown

The PERI RCS Rail Climbing Protection Panel was used on the Block 24 tower at Toronto’s Concord City Place. This was the first project where RCS was used for complete wind protection while allowing the use of flying table forms for the decks. The combination of these features provided maximum safety without compromising the productivity inherent to using table forms for high-rise construction. This portion of the project started in October 2006. The total height of the tower will be 449 ft (137 m) and will include 47 floors and 529 condo units.

PERI SKYDECK slab form system was used for the three levels of underground parking which will accommodate 945 parking and 200 bicycle spaces. SKYDECK will also be used for the building’s 3 non-typical mechanical levels. Each floor has a foot print of 8,256 ft² (767 m²), with an overall total floor area of 427,984 ft² (39,761 m²). On this particular project, the RCS system was designed to allow the upper working levels of the climbing protection panel to fold open in order for the slab forming tables to be moved out and lifted to the next construction level. With the implementation of the protection panels, continuous safe construction is possible ONwithout the influence of wind and weather. Furthermore, the RCS system climbs the building independent of the crane, with the use of hydraulics cylinders, for climbing at any time safely and quickly. The contractor is maintaining a 3-day cycle, resulting in additional cost-effectiveness.

    Assistant Superintendent

“By using the RCS System our workers don’t realize how high they are, and with high winds of 40 mph (60 km/hr) or greater, they feel safe while working. In addition it prevents anything from falling down. Also, because of the system, the heat is well maintained with-in. Even with freezing temperatures outside, it won’t impact our work. Actually it speeds it up compared to other systems, allowing us to be more productive and save on costs. PERI RCS system is excellent.”
