Perfect planning masterfully implemented Smooth construction sequence for a 356 m long tunnel in open construction method
With the implementation of this rail connection, together with a new station, the Italian city of Milan and the Lombardy region experienced an improvement in their infrastructure. The contract on the new M 4 line includes multiple track tunnel constructions, altering in cross-section, for rail traffic that are to be constructed in the cut and cover method.
First-class planned working sequences, “just-in-time” equipment deliveries and fixed formwork systems specific for the task in hand, characterise the construction sequence and decisively help to maintain the time available for the construction.
The principal formwork system for the walls is the VARIO girder wall units. In external tunnel wall areas SB brace frames are used for single-face walls. Table units were constructed from the MULTIPROP system for forming the beams. Two slab formwork systems – MULTIFLEX and SKYDECK – are necessary to form the 356 m long platform.
