Arlanda Airport Control Tower, Stockholm, Sweden
Modified system components for an unusual plan
The capacity of Europe''s seventh largest airport is being extended to accommodate the rising number of passengers. The construction of the new, 85 m high control tower, was necessary to monitor over 375,000 take-offs and landings a year.
At tender stage it was specified that all partition walls in the difficult layout were to be concreted together with the outer circumference walls.
For economical reasons the PERI specialists planned a climbing system with a crane for the inner shafts, and the outer formwork on ACS units climbing without a crane. This allows work to be carried out on the inner formwork within the protection of the outer formwork, even under extreme weather conditions.
The standard floor heights of 3.27 m for the 24 storey building were constructed in a four-day lift cycle.
