ACS-R/P: Self-Climbing Core Formwork
That Facilitate Installation of Pre-Tied Rebar
Broadway 655 is the first office tower built in downtown San Diego in 12 years. It consists of two underground and three above grade levels of parking, 5,500 ft² (510 m²) of retail space and 20 levels of class A office space.
In order to complete this project on time, Webcor Builders ordered 6,120 ft² (568 m²) of VARIO wall formwork and ACS climbing units to raise the formwork without the use of the crane. The ACS configuration selected was ACS-R (regular) units for the exterior formwork and ACS-P (platform) units for the interior formwork. The advantage of this configuration is that there are no over wall obstructions thus permitting the installation of pre-tied rebar which is critical for the construction of a heavily reinforced core in a seismic zone. The rebar is safely and efficiently set from the upper access platforms (level +1) of the interior ACS-P units.
In order to keep the construction sequence flexible, the interior and exterior ACS units are climbed independently. Furthermore, the two interior ACS-P units and the six exterior ACS-R units can be climbed separately thus allowing an efficient flow of work during the construction cycle.
