Waste Water Treatment Plant built with PERI GRV Circular Wall Form System in Boston, MA
The Boston Harbor Project is an ongoing, multibillion dollar waste water treatment facility, which when completed will service all of eastern Massachusetts. Started in 1989, the project will not be completed until the turn of the century.
The plant, which has become operational in incremental phases, is already providing benefits to the marine and wildlife indigenous to the area. Several species of fish and shellfish, once thought to be gone forever, are gradually returning to their natural population levels.
To this date, approximately 100 separate contracts have been awarded to over 60 different contractors. The Residuals Treatment Facility Phase 1, Secondary A & B contract was awarded to The George Hyman Construction Company, now known as Clark Construction. Part of the contract called for the construction of a pair of elevator and stair towers, each 18'' (5.5 m) in diameter, and over 160'' (48.8 m) tall. A complication to the formwork design was the fact that the interior cross section of the elevator tower changed at different elevations. PERI supplied the GRV Circular Form System, consisting of 15'' (4.6 m) high plus 8'' (2.4 m) high panels. The panels were preassembled at the PERI facility in Baltimore, and then shipped to the job site ready for use. The exterior formwork is supported by KG 240 Climbing Brackets, whereas PERI Platform Beams provided the support of the interior forms.
