RCS Systems Increases Productivity and Provides Unsurpassed Safety
With only a nine month construction schedule for the structural concrete frame of the Flair Tower luxury residential
project in Chicago, W.E. O’Neil was looking for a formwork solution to construct the 27 story building in such a short time.
The 24 perimeter columns range from 22” x 24” (56 cm x 61 cm) to 37” x 34” (94 cm x 86 cm) are formed with TRIO panel formwork faced with 21 mm Fin-Ply to achieve an architectural finish. VARIO walers are used to align the columns and to integrate the formwork to the RCS C climbing scaffolds. RCS P protection panels enclose the remaining building perimeter. The RCS P and RCS C units provide an extremely safe work environment and allow work to continue throughout bad weather and high Chicago winds resulting in higher productivity.In addition, the RCS solution for the building perimeter keeps the construction site and surrounding area safe from possible falling material. All RCS units are self-climbing using the portable hydraulic components.
To form the 8½” (22 cm)slabs, a combination of SKYDECK and MULTIFLEX is being used to achieve a five day cycle for the typical 10,500 ft² floors.
