Biggest Single Core Designed Ever by PERI
ACS System Used For Speedy Construction

The design of the Bay Adelaide West by WZMH Partners integrates the 11 story historic facade of the former National Building, which will be rebuilt and restored to its 1926 grandeur. Built to a LEED Gold standard which mandates the use of environmentally-friendly materials and the maximum recycling of building materials, Bay Adelaide Centre West will feature state-of-the-art operating and life safety systems.
This project is the biggest single core that PERI has ever designed and supplied in the world using the ACS systems. It will house 26 passenger, two service and four parking elevators. A combination of 12 ACS R, five ACS P and 12 ACS G platforms is used for the construction of the 117' x 65' (35.60 m x 19.70 m) core, allowing the contractor to achieve a three day construction cycle.
In one of the ACS P platforms, a self climbing concrete placing boom was designed to climb with the system. Two carpenters are able to lift two ACS platforms in about 20 minutes using each one of the 17 hydraulic pump units on this site.
A typical cycle takes approximately three hours to climb the exterior ACS R platforms, after which rebar installation would begin. As rebar installation progresses, the platforms would then be raised. By mid day of the third day of the cycle, all the ACS platforms would be lifted, secured and wall formwork would be closed for concrete placement. RCS/PERI UP Climbing Stair Tower allows access from the lobby slabs to the ACS system.
All forms are constructed with 4" (10cm) of rigid insulation and a protective sheet of plywood on the back. This allows concrete to be poured at extreme low temperatures. It is not uncommon in winter time to reach low temperatures of -22° Fahrenheit (-30° Celsius).

This is the first time using the ACS system. We really like it because it is straight forward and easy to understand its operation. Our workers feel extremely safe being enclosed by the system while they work. It saves us money on crane time and other expenses by using this system.
