PERI SKYDECK and ACS

RBC Centre is among the first large scale class “A” commercial buildings to be built in Toronto in more than 10 years. When completed in 2009, this 42 story project will have a total building area of 1,775,000 ft² (164,902 m²). The typical office tower floor plate is 27,000 ft² (2,508 m²). The project also features an adjoining 10 story podium structure, which has a typical office floor plate of 37,000 ft² (3,437 m²) and 3 levels of underground parking.

Lower level, non typical floor slabs were formed using the efficient SKYDECK system with MULTIPROP shoring. Typical floor columns are 4 ft x 4 ft (1.20 m x 1.20 m) and were poured using PERI’s VARIO QUATTRO tie-less column form system. The building’s core employs the leading edge ACS Automatic Climbing Systems, which utilizes hydraulic jacks to climb the formwork without the use of a crane. Core walls are 2 ft (0.60 m) wide with lengths up to 121 ft (37 m). A typical lift is approximately 14 ft (4.30 m) high and took an average of 20 minutes.
